Howdy, Jakee,

Welcome to iboats. :)

That's a 1987.

OMC changed the recommended mix back to 50:1 shortly after your engine was built, so that is what you should use.

I had a 6hp Rude and ran it 100:1 (never new it changed) for about 15years before it pretty much died. Great motor though.

Re: Gas/Oil mixture-100:1????

The reason OMC went back to 50:1 was not operational problems.

Engines that had been running 100:1 were experiencing internal corrosion in storage. . . not enough residual oil film to protect ferrous parts.

Re: Gas/Oil mixture-100:1????

JB is right. OMC was seeing too much corrosion on young motors during warranty periods with the switch to 100:1 and they went back to 50:1. 300:1 at idle and 150:1 at full throttle were their numbers for what was actually needed for wear protection. This can be verified IF you able find a past OMC warranty manager from the SE USA.

HI,
I use 100:1 with my twins Merc 2.5L 200HP 1994. They work also with the Oil Injection...
I´ve used CASTROL TCWIII...
They are great, sometimes a lot of smoke at cold condition but after 2 or 3 minutes the smoke dissapear. These engines has more than 1000 hours running and feel good. Only problem with trim motor. I really do not understand Mercury Designers Engineers!!!It´s very difficult to replace the motor brushes when the boat is in water...Please Engineers: thinks about parts maintenance...
Best Regards
Carlos
Desde Venezuela...Good place to live...
