What is the proper oil/gas mixture for my 1958 johnson sea horse 7 1/2hp. Gas tank says mix 1 quart of S.A.E 30 with 6 gallons gas. Not sure what they mean by S.A.E 30. Is that a standard two stroke oil.

No that is not a standard 2 stroke oil. You can use 2 stroke outboard oil, mix it at 24 to 1. Hope this helps :) :)

in the days that motor was built that was a norm to get 24:1 mix was to mix 1 qt of oil to 6 gals of gas to get it. now with todays TCW-3 oil you don't have to do that.

I'm not sure what Bubbakat meant, Jim, but you still need to use a quart of oil to 6 gallons of unleaded regular.

The oil to use has changed, to TC-W3 outboard oil.

Good luck. :)

Been there done that
The old SAE 30 mix left the boater with loose fillings and long arms. i.e. It did not mix well.
SAE 30 ,if I remember correctly,is standard weight 30 viscosity automotive motor oil.
Use any tc-w3 rated 2-stroke oil at the 24:1 ratio.
With a bit of regular preventative maintenance that little clasic John should last more than a life time so add it to your will.
