Hello Guys,

I just bought two Suzuki DF6 and DF15 model 2010 recently. I just made my first oil change yesterday for the DF6 and i noticed strong gas smell in the old oil. I ran the DF6 for 30 minutes after replacing the oil and drained it to test again but this time no gas smell.

I drained the oil from the DF15 too, it also had gas smell. I replaced the oil but didn't have chance to run it yet.

What could I did wrong to get gas in my crank case? I don't think the engines are bad because they are new. I did lie two of them down on the right side without draining the carb. I was supposed to drain carb for the DF6 before transportation (also lying down) but the DF15's manual doesn't mention that.

The oil looked fine, still thick and there wasn't an excessive amount. But the gas smell really bother me and i need to find out.

UPDATE: The DF15 manual does mention i have to drain gas from the carb too before lying down or transportation. Sorry, i didn't see it before. Perhap it is the reason?

Re: Gas Smell in Oil

"Q: Is it always water?
A: No. Tiny amounts of raw fuel also leak into the crankcase on the compression stroke, potentially diluting the oil and raising the level on a cool-running motor. Or there could be a fuel system leak. Typically the odor of the latter situation is fairly obvious, but not necessarily. Lack of a gassy smell shouldn't preclude checking the possibility of fuel system leaks. Over choking and frequent flooding will also cause fuel to get into the oil."

This definitely helps, thanks! :) I will follow procedures strictly and check periodically see if it happens again.
