gas squirtinig out of the side of carb?

have a 86-88 DT 85 finally got the starter done and was tring to start the engine. well i squeesed th Primer Bulb and saw gas squirted out of the top of the bottom carb. was just wondering if it is normal? i am not getting it to start thinking pump and or carbs. but i am going to start with the pump. i quirt gas in the plugs and starts right up.

Yes, that is normal. When was the last time this was ran? have the carbs been taken apart and cleaned well? After you have tried to start it pull the plugs and see if they are all wet. I would think that if it was the fuel pump it should run while squeezing the bulb when you try to start it. If it doesn't more than likely your problem is the carbs. Good Luck.

i don't think it's normal, gas should NOT be squirting out the top of the carb. i think you have a stuck float and too much gas is entering the bowl. what you see is the excess gas coming out the vent.

If you over pump the bulb gas will squirt out the hole at the top of the carb. Good Luck.
