I just bought a plastic gas tank for my boat but I'm not sure what I need to get in order to hook gas lines up the tank only has a fill cap and that's all not sure how to or where to install the pickup line. Any help would be apreciated

The kit is sold with the connectors and hose by make and model of engine. This is why it is sold separately from the tank.

You get the red 6 gal?
Maybe a pic?

I don't understand: if it's a tank designed for fuel? then it should have a pickup built in?
Pics?

if this is a poly in-deck tank, there are 3-4 connections and a gauge port. Fill, vent, 1-2 pickup locations and the gauge port

if this is a 6 or 12 gallon portable, there is a built in gauge, a fill port with a vent cap and a single line that gets connected to the outboard

Sounds like you bought a regular gas can. You need a real boat tank with the proper connections.
