Gas tank fuel filter?

I was just wondering, that with all the junk in the gas these days, would it be a good idea to install a filter in the gas tank fuel line? Also, last year my new marine gas lines got so brittle, so I replaced them with automobile 5/16 fuel line...much more flexible...good or bad idea!

Re: Gas tank fuel filter?

I would say it is almost mandatory to have at least a basic in line fuel filter, it will save you alot of carb rebuilds.

I have had just a basic inline from Autozone on mine for 2 years and haven't had a single carb problem, a fuel/water seperater is best but they can be a little salty.

As long as the line was alcohol resistant you are fine, gas line is gas line, you don't say what engine or year but if this is more than 8-10 years old I would change all the line under the cowl too.

Thanks Captain! I never thought about the lines under the cowl, but will change them out, no matter what they look like...just good practice, me thinks....

When installing a new filter, one large filter is better than 2 small ones.
The larger one will plugs less often.
