I have been totally rebuilding my '74 Glastron 302 Ford V-8 and I thank those who have been helpful. Everything is coming together and I have two basic areas to work on. The first is the fuel system. The second I will bring latger up is the ignition where I am making changes.
My concern now is the existing tank. from looking at it it seems like you would have to tear the boat apart to get it out. It is located up front. The tank sat for ten years with about eight gallons of fuel. The line from the tank to the engine compartment was 3/8" copper.
When I first tore it down (a couple of years ago I searched out some fuel stabilizers, added them, drained the gas out, filtered it and burned the gas up one gallon per fill up in my Ford pickup. The tank is as empty as I can get it.
Now I am ready to clean it out some more. I was thinking of adding 5 gallons of fuel with an additive, shaking the boat a bit and then draining it out like I did before. Have any of you been through this? Suggestions for products and procedures would be most helpful.
What I have done to the fuel system:
1: Rebuilt the Carburetor with a Holley Marine Carburetor Kit.
2: Added new Holley Marine fuel pump.
3: Added Sierra Filter including shut-off.
4: Kept existing steel-bowl filter in line and changed the filter cartridge. By the way, after ten years there was no water in the bowl although the gas stunk.
5: Replaced the fuel lines with new marine fuel line. Added brass fittings as needed.
Thanks again,
Jim
