I bought a used aluminum fabricated products 18 gallon tank. I put a new sending unit in it and

cleaned all the fittings for the gas line hookup and new teflon tape. Now to the question the tank has

a breather tube about 3/4", should i block that tube off so i get pressure built up in the tank or do i

need a breather that large. A 2 stroke 75 hp mercury outboard is the motor i have. Any answers to my

problem or stupidity lol!!! Would be appreciated and thanks in advance. I tried the company phone but i

think they are out of business thanks in advance

The tank needs to be vented, not bring vented the motor would no be able to draw fuel

DO NOT block the vent, gas expands and contract at a pretty good rate and the tank needs to be able to ventso you either couldn't get fuel as Treker said or it woudl be getting pushed to the tank.

Boat fuel systems are not designed for pressure.

My tank's "breather" is just an overflow. It has a section of fuel line that empties into the water through the floor. It never has expanded enough to do that but the reason I write it is terminology. It is a overflow vent not a breather. And by all means needs to be open. I don't know that a filter is needed.
