Right now I use 2 portables 6 gal tanks. I get a bit over 4 mpg. That used to be enough for the Babcock which I used mostly for fishing. Once I try to turn it into a fun boat (cruising, tubing...) I started to run a bit low in gas at the end of the day.
I moved those tanks to the "new" boat which is a lot better suit for that type of use. Last year we could not use the boat as much due to my economic problems and the price of gas. Now I am starting to wonder if I should get those 2 12 gal portable tanks I saw in wally's... If it were not for the concern of weight I would get them, no question asked...

So, who of you have a similar set up and has around 24 gal of gas in the back of your boat? Do you see any big difference in the handling of the boat when the boat goes down to half the tank?

Opinions are welcome but first hand experience are preferred.

Thanks!!

those boats were basically designed for 2 6 gallon tanks. i don't believe you have the height under the splash well for 2 12 gallon tanks. you may be able to get a moeller or tempo 18 gallon to fit under there. you may have to install smart tabs, to help get out of the hole, with the added weight.

i had 2 6 gallons on my pontoon, replaced with a 27 gallons, and 6 gallon aux tank. i can definately tell the difference.

I see. I wanted to install a moeller in the bow but if I do that then I loose big part of the storage space I have there as there is no enough space to put it under the deck. I guess I will try and see how it works with the 2 6 gal tanks. I have a few lake trips that will push the tank limits but maybe a regular 6 gal portable tank tied in the bow might work.
Thanks
