I have a 1979 Evinrude 25 hp outboard. Runs great, but the plastic gas tank compresses when I run it for an hour or more. I have the ventilation tightened all the way and periodically release it to relieve some of the pressure. Should I have the ventilation opened or closed on the gas tank?tank?

Re: Gas Tank Ventilation

Vent must be ALWAYS open when motor is running, or as you state, the tank will collapse. Closed is OK when done for the day.

Re: Gas Tank Ventilation

WildeOne I didn't know if there would be a problem with releasing the pressure in the line. Your response makes sense. Thanks!

Re: Gas Tank Ventilation

Even the "stock" metal tanks are slightly vented otherwise they would collapse

Just partially open the vent valve a little while your running.

Bob
