I am attaching the powerhead to the cowl and wonder whether or not I should use gasket cement to make a proper seal. It looked like it was used previously but lately mechanics tell me to just use vaseline. what is right?? thanks

Re: Gasket cement

I would use Permatex, the non-hardening formula.<br />Vasseline is ok, but keep in mind, it is fuel-soluable- Whereas , the permatex isn't.

Re: Gasket cement

External.... Many of the newer gaskets have a self sealer coating on them. If this is the case, the gasket will have a glossy appearance and usually the words "DO NOT USE SEALER" will be imprinted on it. Personally, unless the above pertains, I have always (as recomended by OMC) used regular Gasket Sealer on that gasket. It is available at any automotive or marine parts type store. It's the type that comes in a can and has a brush attached to its screw on cap.
