My engine is a 1978 Merc 402.

I will be replacing the fuel diaphragm, thermostat, rebuilding the carb and installing new water pump impeller. All parts are ordered and on the way.

Question: To replace the gaskets - - I noticed in taking the carb off that the gasket came off in one piece and was clean, ie. it didn't have any type of form a gasket type material on it. Do you need to use any material like this when reinstalling the gaskets.

Lubricant for installing water pump impeller: Is there any special lubricant needed here to lubricate the impeller when reattaching the water pump cover?

Thanks.

If the gasket is undamaged you won't need sealant, lf it is replace it. Impellers don't need lube but if you feel the need, dish soap.
