Hello everyone.

I?m working on a Mercruiser 888 (Ford 302) and I need a lot of gaskets. I was wondering if there is anything that you can buy to cut out your own gaskets. Its going to be expensive replacing all of these and on top of that i need to wait a long time for them to ship if i order them online.

Autozone carries 3 different types of gasket material in rolls, I have used alot of the stuff and it is very inexpensive.

Thank you.

Does it work good and is it hard to get a good cut?

Cork rolls are cheap and easy to cut. The carb and water pump gasket on my boat are made from it. You have to match materials, though, as the metallic gaskets cannot be swapped with cork. Paper gaskets, however, can be.

you cant get an aftermarket 302 complete engine kit from somewhere cheap? Seems like they would be all over the place...

It's easy to cut and for the small bolt holes I use a hole punch for paper and it works great.

Re: Gasket Material?

I stopped using gaskets (other than certain critical ones, like head gaskets) a couple of years ago when i discovered Permatex Right Stuff gasket maker

http://www.permatex.com/products/Au...uto_Permatex_the_Right_Stuff_Gasket_Maker.htm

I know this sounds like a commercial, but honestly, I have no affiliation other than being a satisfied customer. I generally drive older vehicles that I maintain and repair myself and I have never had a single leak where I used this stuff. On the downside, if you have to disassemble where it was used......it is a bit of a chore because it works so well. Small price to pay for leak free seals, IMHO.
