gasket sealant

I'm about to change the head gasket on my 60hp 1982 johnson twin. The gasket supplied has sealant already applied to one side should this go up against the block or cylinder head? The gasket seems to fit either way up.

And just what does this have to do with "propellers". Post your question in the applicable engine forum. Your question will get answered more quickly.

I don,t know that engine and only deal with older smaller engines but have never seen a head gasket that can go on either way. Are you sure?
