I just done some work on my motor and the man at the marine shop suggested that I use omc gasket compound about 2.59cents it comes in a container with its own brush ..goes on real good and I have no leaks .I used it on the carb to manifold gaskets as well as other gaskets ..
Dry gasket is right. You don't want any OMC Gasket Sealer gumming up your reeds or anything. OMC Sealer is for bolt threads, head gaskets, and water applications. I wouldn't use it anywhere near the carbs - it's pretty gummy/sticky stuff.
Novacane, you are a Firesign Theatre fan??
Well, nice to meet you, a-clemm.
After all,"we are all bozos on this bus" LOL
Renegade is right. Just use a new gasket each and every time the carb is pulled, and it should be fine.
Using sealer on the carb base gasket can create many problems. Many applications use small vacuum ports which pass through and are sealed by this gasket from manifold to carb.(sock type fuel pumps, enrichment circuits etc.) Any amount of glue will plug these drillings giving you a troubleshooting challenge. I remember an incodent where a tech sprayed hi-tach adhesive on an intake before installing the gasket, during an overhaul. Some glue made its way onto the intake valve stem. The Onan engine developed an intermitent miss at idle. The tech's hair was grey before he found the problem.
