on a 1949 keikhaefer ke-4 between the powerhead and exhaust housing theres a gasket and in addition to the gasket where the water supply goes into the power head there is a rubber washer.think i could use a washer made of gasket material instead of ordering a powerhead seal kit. the only rubber washers i've found locally are .060 thick. the gasket material is .031 and the original seems to be .026 after being in place for a whole lot of years

Re: gasket/washer

Go for it, It won't be a catastrophy if it doesn't work... But use gasket material that is spec'd for whatever it will be exposed to.... For instance, Fuel, water, both, you get the picture... <br />If you look at water jacket gaskets and cylinder head gaskets, you'll notice a difference... So just keep that in mind. To make a long story short, if the washer is rubber, you might want to replace it with something of the same composition...

Re: gasket/washer

Well the gasket material is "Felpro Karropak 3046" and to be perfectly honest, i didn't even consider the application when i bought it.i need it to seal the powerhead from the exhaust housing and pass water thru a hole in the gasket to the water jacket. So it will have to tolerate exhaust and water. I suppose that means it will be in contact with gas at times from the exhaust. I can't find the specs on the material so i guess i'm glad i didn't get this motor closed up yet.Any idea what applications the "karropak" is suited for? Jerome
