I'm about to replace the lower unit oil on my SeaKing 1970 55 hp made by Chrysler that is on a boat I just purchased. I have seen where there is suppose to be some kind of gasket on the screws that's suppose to be replaced too. I can't find anything in the marine stores and I'm not noticing that there were gaskets on these screws when I removed them.

Do I need them?

Are they standard items that I could get at the hardware store?

If so, What size and what material are they?

You can get them anyplace that sells boats. Mercury or Johnson/Evinrude fit equally well. Some are plastic, some are thick gasket material. You can probably get them thru NAPA. They sell marine parts too, but don't stock many. Less than $2 for the pair, and you definately need them. ID 3/8, OD 5/8.
