Okay, I isolated the problem. Gas squirts out of the bottom of the float bowl located underneath the carburetor of my 1984 25hp Mercury. Any idea why this is happening before I attempt to take it apart? Thanks.

With out seeing it, id say it has a bad gasket.

Re: gasoline coming out of fuel bowl?

if the fuel is actually coming out of the bottom of the float chamber it would indicate a small hole in the bottom, sometimes caused by water collecting there and corroding a pin hole, in which case you could try to patch it from the inside or get a new carb. hopefully your leak is a gasket, seal or O-ring somewhere on the carb and it just appears to be coming out the bottom. Good luck and let us know what you find!
