Gasoline fume alert

I am in the process of buying a boat with twin I/O's. I have had fume alerts on my last two single engine boats and am a believer in their usefulness. In researching what is on the market, I notice that dual sending unit alerts are available. Should I install a fume alert with two sending units so I can locate a sending unit in close proximity to each engine or is this overkill?

If you have two separate areas where fumes can collect, the dual unit may be useful.
Gasoline fumes are 3-4 time heavier than Air.
If both engines are in the same compartment, the fumes will sink down to the keel area very quickly.

I would think that it will be an added measure of safety on a twin engine boat.

i have a single detector that is on the starboard side of the bulkhead. I would imagine it would be slower to react to a fuel leak on the port engine.

Single in the engine compartment Two is over kill. I have twins and only one detector. They are very sensitive as you know

Thanks for getting back to me. I've decided that I am going with one sender.

Happy Boating!

I agree....two is overkill. I am going with one. Thanks for your response.
