If I were to repower a 1993 carbed 225 with either an HPDI or 4-stroke of recent vintage, what am I facing in terms of re-rigging, particularly in terms of the gauge and control package at the helm. What about the engine itself - will it mount in the existing holes?

Re: Gauge/Control compatibility on Repower

the engine will fit the same holes. the control box will work. the main ign harness will work. the trim harness will have to have adapters and the 93 trim gauge wont work. the tach functions will. the 93 gauges wont work correctly with any four strokes. take my advice. do yourself a major favor. buy it all new and sell the old stuff. its like Ripley's, believe it or not.

Re: Gauge/Control compatibility on Repower

I would certainly want to try to get all new, but there is a cost issue not only in parts, but rigging. NMost builders don't design wiring runs with a repower in mind - the engine/gauge wiring is bundled and taped together with lighting, accesories, and all manner of other circuits you don't want to touch. Given that you can't even see half of this, rerigging from scratch is a little scary.

When you say "buy it all new",. do you mean the shift/throttle control as well?
