Re: Gaugeguy

The shotgun season starts May 1st and runs for a month (most of the hens have been bred and its difficult to get the toms to respond after the second week of May, wish they had it in April). Archery season for turkey is Sept. 15 to Dec 15th. All we have here is the eastern strain.

I believe there are 5 different strains; Eastern, Merriams, Rio Grande, Osceola, and Rocky Mountain.

Edit...just googled it and there are 4, drop the Rocky Mountain strain.

Re: Gaugeguy

Well GG, bring yourself to my neck of the woods in late April, and I'll take you on an unforgettable Turkey hunt!

......You might have to leave TyGuy at home, 'cause we don't want the pet hamsters to be nervous. ;)

Our season starts April 27th I believe. and, like you, we only have the Easterns here.

edit, Yes Willy, GG is correct. The Eastern is the most abundant in the U.S. (of the 4 sub-species that is).

Re: Gaugeguy

I can't believe how well turkeys do nowadays. I remember hunting as a kid and never seeing turkeys. Now you can't help but seeing them when driving to work or taking walks in the woods.

I just may take you up on that Carp, never been on a "guided" hunt. Ty is going to take up turkey hunting this year as well, so we should have some good stories after "March Madness". :p

Re: Gaugeguy

You are seriously more than welcome to make a trip to Hoosier-land and hunt them Turkeys. If by some chance you are serious, let me know, and I will try to e-mail you some info like out of state license costs, places to stay, ect.

I can't imagine a turkey huntin trip with Tylerin, Gaugeguy, and Carp. There wouldn't be an animal in the woods that would be safe.......................especially them little field mice.

Re: Gaugeguy

I go to northern Indiana (Wakarusa) 3 times a year on business, I'm sure I could get a couple days off to hunt. I went there during deer season last year, but unlike here I guess you can't hunt on unposted property there. That really sucked cause I saw some dandy bucks hanging out in the cornfields and not a house to be seen

Yeah, its illegal to hunt private property here, (whether posted or not), without the landowners permission. Personally, I like that law.

yippeeeeeeeeeeeee.......just received confirmation in the mail that I drew May18-22 in unit 25 wisconsin for spring gobblers.

why this is soo coooool to me is 'cause I first saw turkeys this year up that way (in late spring) in Price County. Been hoping the birds would work their way up there. What was very cool was that i had a flock of of them work by me while deer hunting by the shack. WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO..momma is gonna love to get rid of my butt 'cause i'm gonnaaaaa drive the whole family nuts yelping away with a mouth call 'till then!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyhooo......good luck and best to all here, even though it's a looooong ways off.

Re: Gaugeguy

Yea Spinner, I noticed that too, but I wasn't going to say anything. Guess I am glad I didn't get invited, then I don't have to turn him down - don't want to go hunting any Crap. I find enough without looking for it!

Re: Gaugeguy

Sorry guys.........Everybody is invited!!!!!!!

Gaugeguy was the only one that I knew for sure hunted Turkeys.

Nate, I'm in Harrison County Indiana near a town called Corydon, (Indiana's first state capital). How far that is from Sprindale Arkansas, I am not sure. I have been to Harrison Arkansas. Hunted them turkeys in the Ozark National forest I believe. Now, for the craphunter remark, i'll say, because your from Arkansas, I understand spelling is probably a stretch for ya. :p

'Speck, I got a special place I take them "special" Kentucky fans. (Let me put it this way, there are lots of Gerbils, PVC pipes, and a fella named TyGuy there). You'll love it, i'm sure. ;)

pjc, good luck!!!! :)

SBN, I still haven't recovered from this line............"I been messin with dogs my whole life". :D

Chappy, not too close to Pike county. Only one or two deer, and one turkey..............man, that ain't even a challenge. ;)

Tylerin, you look like a pansy in your hat. :p

Re: Gaugeguy

That's it, I ain't going, not if you are gonna stick me with Ty and the gerbils! Them things would be hard to stick, and the Muzzy's wouldn't leave much left for TyGuy!

But wait, I have shot chipmunks with a double barrel 20 gauge & punkin' balls ... naw, that didn't leave much either.

Alright Carpy,
I just did a map search. I remembered my wife mentioning Corydon. You are less than 50 miles from where she grew up. She was born and raised in Otwell, but Jasper is the largest and closest "real" city. I know you'll know what I mean :D Her Grandmother lived in Evansville and a lot of her family still does.
Talk about a small world!

AK Chappy
