Re: Gear box oil grade/weight

Aha... A fellow Aussie.

Welcome aboard.. this is a great site for troubleshooting.

You use Marine grade lower unit oil (Not diff oil) available from boat shops. Depending on your manual recommendation, it will be similar to the USA tcw -3 It's about SAE 85 or thereabouts.Loooks and smell like car diff oil but with better properties.
I also have a Suzi (aux 6hp) very nice little motor.. try here and sign up .. it gives you pdf's of all parts.
http://www.brownspoint.biz

Re: Gear box oil grade/weight

Thanks for the link Andy - I have found this site has excellent Suzuki resources - have not had to post questions as much of the info is readily available.

I used a grade of oil 75W or 85W when we rebuilt the gearbox, which has worked fine for twelve months.

I am about to change the oil and was checking what others may use. The marine grade oil is too expensive, when for all intents and purposes it performs the same task as the automotive cousin.

craw
