Gear Cable 1991 90 HP Merc.

I need to remove my 90 HP Merc to replace my steering cable, everything seems simple enough but the gear cable at the motor end seems stuck.<br /><br />After removing the nut shouldn't the cap (not sure what its called) simply pull up off the cable to allow me to lift the cable out?<br /><br />Thanks for all the help in past posting, you guy's have been great. Not only do I save money by doing it myself, I know its done right and it makes for safer boating....<br /><br />Jerry

Once the nut is removed the cable should put out of the motor unless it's stuck in the tube, if thats the case you should oil the end of the cable that sticks out the other end of the tube and tap it with a hammer, be carefull not to peine the end of the cable over
