Gear Case lubrication?

I've just found out that I have lubricated my gearcase incorrectly by putting the grease in the top hole rather than the bottom. What is the worst case scenario? I have not run it yet, do I dump the grease in it now and reload from the bottom or what?????

The reason you fill from the bottom is to let trapped air escape. Just remove bottom plug, insert oil tip then remove upper screw and fill from bottom until oil emits from the top hole. Replace top plug before removing tip at bottom.

and when you say "grease" you mean lower unit gear oil, right? Also make sure motor is completely in the down position when you fill it, otherwise you can get an air bubble trapped in it and underfill the lower unit.. (I think this led to an overheated bearing and a broken driveshaft on one of my motors) Those cheap pumps that screw into the drain/fill plug work great and make the job much cleaner.

good luck.
