Gear case oil

Notice lot of discussion re: weight and kind of gear oil and need to prevent oil leakage and entry of water into gearcase. Conversely the British Seagull Outboard manual says a bit of water seepage is ok in its engines. Is this difference because the Seagull uses plain bronze bushing/bearings and the Johnsons do not?

You may be right, but they have a reputation for being indestructible and dependable.
