gear case removal 1983 70 hp mec

I am attempting to change the water pump in a 1983 70 hp merc having trouble removing the gear case, manual shows a nut onthe front top of the case its not there on mine is there a nut where the speedometer tube goes into the case?

You should have only 1 bolt and 3 nuts to remove. A bolt holds the trim tab on, it is beneath a plastic plug at the rear of the LU. After removing the trim tab there is a nut which was under the tab and a nut on either side of the LU.

I have removed all of them and the case doesnt want to move I dont want to damage it tryig to force it. does the shift shaft need to be released?
