Hi there,

I have a Fiberglass American 18, built in 1979, with the original gear lever with the knob to disengage the clutch.
I was thinking of changing it to something up to date. Is anyone experienced in this? It is an inboard engine.
Thanks a lot!

I'm going to move this to I/O repair.

Welcome,

Are you having a problem with yours ? or do you just want to change.

There are many to choose from, I guess there are a couple options, like trim/tilt and trailering buttons, maybe even a key switch integration.

I think the most important thing to make sure is that you get one for your year and type of drive, like 1980 Mercruiser as apposed to 1980 OMC, as there are differences in the types of cable ends used.

Good luck !!!
