Bought my 2000 Bayliner Capri 1850 w/ 4.3l Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive last year, been doing some maintenance on it recently and looked and seen the gear lube reservoir was empty, I filled it back up and the next morning there’s gear lube on the ground, I look a little closer and I see a bolt in the hose for the gear lube line that feeds into the drive at the bell housing. Is there any reason that the previous own done this?
I recently changed the gear lube in the drive and everything looks fine when I changed it.

To me, it sounds like the engine was removed at some point. They plug the lines with bolts when they pull motors. Maybe those just didn't get hooked back up.

Alpha 1 Gen I outdrives did not have gear lube reservoirs. Maybe you have one of those as a replacement for the original?

It may well be, but he never reported a place to connect the gear lube reservoir tube, but reported the gear lube was good. It is a possibility, no?

Anyone got a picture of what it’s supposed to look like, seems like i’m missing some hardware.

The gear lube fitting broke off and was not replaced, so a band-aid was installed.

You need part 861150T02 or if you can find the old style which was all brass

If you do use zip ties, get the ones made for round lines.
