After cleaning because I had dumped in some motor oil instead of gear oil I did not mark the two wires that were connected to the unit and now have a problem. Since both wires are black I am assuming it doesn't matter which way they are reconnected. I'm thinking that these wires somehow complete a circuit to enable the engine to run and if the oil level drops too low it will disable the engine to protect the drive. Am I right? The way I see it the oil gets to the drive by gravity and the wires do not run a pump. The service manual doesn't really explain the operation of the unit although the wiring diagram shows color coded wires. It's on a 1995 3.0lx alpha gen II.
