Hi, i have a 1977 evinrude 85 that is having gear oil coming out of weep hole when the engine is lifted. I just change the gear oil but rechecked and added. No water present when pulling drain plug but looks to be water mix or air whipped in the fluid coming out of top plug.
I wondering if seals under water pump and shift housing needs replaced

Oil that is mixed with the gas often leaks out of the exhaust housing.-----Causes great panic.-----The correct approach is to pressure test the gearcase to look for possible leaking seals.----And on a 45 year old motor it is a good idea to install a seal kit for peace of mind.-----Less trouble than finding gears or a used gearcase for that motor !!-----Those gearcases shift opposite to newer ( 78 and newer ) ones.----Easy to find in some areas.----Not so easy in some areas.

The oil in the gear case should be "clear and bright" .

If there is any sign of milkiness it indicates water is entering and that new seals are necessary,
IMHO opinion the best way forward is to change all the seals then pressure test, if you have the equipment, to confirm the unit is now leak free.

While replacing the seals fit a new water pump impeller..

Note what Racerone says about unburnt oil from the fuel mixed with water leaking from the exhaust housing drain holes and read this item from the Engine FAQs
