I have a 1979 Mark Twain with a 230HP and early Alpha 1 outdrive. I pulled the outdrive and the bellows is full of gear oil. No water in bellows. The boots are newer,I am puting a motor in and is this norm or is a seal gone bad in the upper unit .Thanks again

You will need a new input shaft seal, and possibly the yoke. Usually there is a groove in the ujoint yoke where the seal rides on that old a drive.
