Hi everyone. Was changing out impeller and shiftshaft bushing/seals,and gear oil on lower unit .While refilling oil I noticed oil running out prop shaft area where exhaust exits. How hard is this to fix?Was it because of something I was changing, or did a seal in lower gear case let go? This is on a 93 alpha1 gen2 unit.Just got it all back on boat after replacing the bellow's and shift cable.Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks Randy dripping oil in North Carolina

Re: gear oil leaking

missing quad seal,(smallish O ring between the units), upper shaft seals bad
If it didnt leak before you worked on it, recheck your work.

Re: gear oil leaking

Thanks, pulled lower back off and no o-ring.Also I did notice some oil running down from upper shaft, but that may had come from pulling the lower unit down and off...Just an o-ring up in there and it looked good....It's one of those sterndrive engineering clone's(upper drive) that is almost brand new and o-ring seems good. Also noticed that where "quad ring" sets, upper unit recess is slightly smaller than lower unit recess.Thinking o-ring sets inside of smaller recess maybe held in place with some bellows glue or some great seal...You'r thought's please, and again thank you.

Re: gear oil leaking

contact cement, bellows adhesive, etc to hold it in place.GEN ii`s will leak with the lower unit removed unlike Alpha`s that wont if the seals are good.
