I upgraded my boat motor from a 1981 to a 1994 Evinrude 120 hp. I noticed it harder and harder to get into neutral. Finally reverse didn't work at all. After taking cable completely off motor I noticed I could move the cable back and forth and the shifter never moved. The bolt the held the cable in my control box had come loose. Just had to take control off boat and tighten bolt. I added super glue too.Here are some pics.
