Anyone know if the gears from either of these lowers are compatabile with a 1254x9b 1989 model?

Chrysler-1159h9c, a 1979 model, contains gears Frt-818068A2, Rear F2A523662

Force 1258x4a, a 1987 model, contains same part numbers as above.

The gear set in the 1254x9b is a set numbered 820316A1.

All 3 share the same prop shaft and clutch dog.

could the lowers be swapped on these?

Thanks in advance

Re: gear set compatability

If you go to boats.net and work your way to the force lower units parts page, they give a list of the engine size by hp the parts can fit into. I hope that helps out.

Re: gear set compatability

Around 78-79 Chrysler changed to a one piece lower unit. If the 79 is a one piece lower unit, everything is swappable. Same with the 87: Everything is swappable.

Re: gear set compatability

Thanks, Frank just the answer I was looking for. I found both the 79 and 87 sitting in my buddy's yard, way back in the unclaimed and damaged junk piles.

I found this problem on Friday night, jumping out of forward gear and setting back in really hard. I knew I had the max throw on the shift rod, so I knew I had to go back into the lower. When I did i found that the problem I had was my original clutch dog had a crack in one of the bosses, it was a small crack but it was obvious enough that one good strike and it was going to break off, and the fresh cuts on the forward gear were sloped just a little and this allowed the dog to slip under load.

I knew the clutch could be changed but was interested in the gear sets, and since the part numbers didn't match I was unsure. I changed the gears as well and slapped it back together, then took it to the river for a test run, worked out great. Problem on discovered on Friday, fixed on Saturday and back on the water before night fall.
