gear shift adjusting in powerhead of 25hp Johnson

I've asked before and got no reply, plz help!
Had my forward and reverse gears remachined and reinstalled them myself, it is all put together well but the guy that remachined them suggested i didn't have the shifter in the powerhead adjusted correctly. How is this done? Any help gratly appreciated!

what year what mpdel. do you have a manual. remachining is a bandaid.
