Gear Shifting Problem

Hi, I have a 15hp, 4 stroke mercury with remote controlls that does not want to go all the way into reverse or foreward. It just seems to go far enough to grind . If I reach down the side of the engine and shove the rod a little further it will lock into either gear. Is there a way to adjust for this problem ?

Re: Gear Shifting Problem

It can only be one of three things, either a semi siezed cable,a loosely anchored cable in the control box,or if you have an aftermarket control box it will more than likely have a couple of different stroke settings,ie holes drilled at different distances from the pivot of the activating lever in the control box,to get a longer stoke, use the hole furthest away from the pivot point,it will be a case of trial and error.See how you go with that.

Re: Gear Shifting Problem

Thanks for the help. The problem was in the controll box. The cable end was out of position. Thanks, Great Forum !
