Hello again, this relates to my newly identified 1999 25 hp johnson o/b, the prop/gearbox has a fair amount of play, ie when in gear i can turn the prop abot 70-75 degrees, is this normal or should i think about having a look inside? Cheers Ray.
Ps can anyone tell me how much oil in metric mls in the g/box please?

That rotation in gear is completely normal and necessary. It isn't broke
Sorry, somebody else will have to answer the metric oil question.

Yes, verified with the manual. 82rude is correct. 11 ounces, 325 mls.

It will gush out oil from the top hole before you get to 11 ounces usage. You have to pump it in very slowly. The oil distributes itself inside the gearcase very slowly. You gotta let it sit for a few seconds before you give another pump. It will eventually take the full 11 ounces.

Re: Gearbox/ propeller sloppy?

Thank you all once again for this good info, as i only drained 170 mls, although no apparent leaks & the oil seemed ok (no contamination) & a very slight silvery look when drained.
This appears to hve been under filled, so i will be patient when refilling.
Thank you & Cheers Ray.
