I recently pulled the lowerunit of a old Johnson outboard. Using a book I dismanteled the gear case, and was happy to see that it looked very clean. I reassamble an began to reinstall. I was surprised to notice that the pinion gear was to slide back onto the drive shaft between some roller bearing. I decided to not install for the moment so that I could reevaluate.

The roller bearing are loose. I am expecting a hassle when sliding the pinion gear back through them and onto the driveshaft. Are there any tricks to doing this?

Challenged
