The gearcase chart doesn't go into motors this small. I can get a gearcase from a 76 25 hp Evinrude which shows the same gearcase housing part number and driveshaft, the forward gear is a different part number. I'm thinking it will work, opinions?

Thanks

Re: Gearcase Interchange 1969 Johnson 20

I just went through this, 69 25hp to a 76 25hp.
The only difference that I could find was the prop shaft, forward and reverse gears. Whe I tore them both down, the 76 had the detent balls and spring for the clutch dog, and the 69 did not, that is the only difference I could find.
I installed the the 76 shaft and gears into the 69 and did not have any problems, the pinion gear was the same.

I did now about the detent balls in the later model. I'm wanting to install the entire gearcase as opposed to just the gears, the housing is the same so it should fit, if not i'll just rip it apart and swap.

I think you should be able to swap the complete lower unit, they are the same part numbers for the housing.
