Gearcase oil

Still new at this. Don’t wanna screw it up. Can I use any lower unit oil or should I stay away from
snything in particular or use a certain oil in particular? 1989, 125hp. J125esxw thanks

You can use whatever you want. In 1989, synthetic gear oil was not available. I would use dino oil, if it was me.

While I'm unable to say if Johnson used synthetic gear lube in their 1989 motor, synthetic was invented during WWII, and the start of it goes back to 1877. AMSOIL starts in 1972 and Mobile 1 start full production in the 1976.

So do use which ever you like, they both will work

See your friendly / helpful dealer.----The best oil from factory is cheap compared to gears and bearings.

Don't forget to use new washers for the Drain and Vent screws. Can't go wrong with Oil from BRP or from Mercury.
