I just purchased a 2000 Johnson 90 HP 60 degree looper model # J90VLSSS serial #G 04874910. It currently has a Pirhana propeller on it and I want to get an SS prop for it, so here is my question I need to purchase a thrust washer, prop washer, prop nut and cotter pins. Here on I boats the prop section is showing two different options for this motor a 13 spline and a 15 spline. Which do I have to order the proper parts. Also the prop hardware section here on Iboats only shows hardware to year 1999. Which parts should I buy??

How about counting the splines on your propshaft?

Re: Gearcase question

why do you need these, thrust washer, prop washer, prop nut and cotter pins, they should be on the present prop. also recheck your model # as the Johnson site does not show it. closest i get is J90VLSSE.
the parts you are talking about, there is VX and VL you need the VL parts, it also requires if running 3 or 4 blade prop. you can see here.

Here you go........

I also tried the BRP parts list but was also perplexed.

The Pirhana prop has an internal thrust washer, the stock one is not used. and the former owner did not give it to me with the boat.
The Pirhana prop also uses a nylon lock nut which does not have a cotter pin or any place for one and must be changed for a "normal" prop.

I didn't want to take off the nylon prop nut that is currently on the prop because you can only use them a certain amount of times before they quit "locking" and I cannot see the splines without removal, just thought someone would know.

Re: Gearcase question

You've got to take it off annually to inspect the seal area, regrease the splines, so why not take it off now? If you're worried, get another elastic stop nut.

Re: Gearcase question

I wanted to get the boat in the water to baseline the prop and not waste any more time as the season is getting shorter.

Re: Gearcase question

I baselined the boat yesterday and need a new prop and hardware, can anyone link me to the parts I will need here on Iboats. I need a thrust washer, prop nut and prop washer and also a prop, but already have a thread for that in the prop section.....

Thanks, Mike.
