I have a 1988 20HP evinrude e20crcca. Just ordered a new gearcase seal kit and water pump kit. My question is how hard of a project is it to do the kits myself?
G.C. more complex but do a pressure test to confirm necessity to venture into the project.. using worn nylon seal on the filler/vent screws may have cause water intrusion but GC seal may be ok .
Not hard to do a gearcase at all.----No special tools required.-----Start by removing water intake screen .----Then undo shift rod connecter in there.-----Scrape paint off the upper shift rod if it has not been done before.-----Slide UPPER nut up.------Remove the split black plastic keeper.----Remove gearcase.
