Hi all, just curious, I am wanting to get some gel coat work done on the floor of my boat, but it has a diamond pattern in the floor of the gel coat. Is there a template or a some way to do it to get it to look close to factory diamond pattern?
Thanks

Re: Gel coat diamond pattern?

Not that I know of, but you can get a slip-resistant floor by epoxy over woven glass provided that you don't fill in with resin too much.

But I don't know how to duplicate a pattern without making a mold of some sort. I guess anything can be done if you have the experience or time.

*edit* Now that I have typed this it occurs to me that maybe someone else who knows more than me has a good answer. Sorry

It was probably laid up in a mold, waxed etc , then sprayed with gelcoat first.

I would try a test with some rubber mat, wax and pva it, spray getcoat then press the mat into it, peel off when cured.

You can buy sheets of rubber non skid for this type of use. It can be used to make a mold or repair a part after its been made. I can't remember the name of the product right now, but you may be able to find it at some of the fiberglass marine supply web sites, or at someplace like Taco Supply.

For a repair, gel coat is applied to the surface and the rubber sheet is layed on it, when the gel coat hardens the sheet is removed and it will leave whatever pattern was on the sheet.

You can always pop a mold off the existing deck but best with tool resin, regular resin produces rough results inside a mold.
