I have a small piece on my boat that was originally a gold sparkle, where can I get Glittery gelcoat like that of which appears on new bass boats? Does anyone know how I can go about doing it or where I can get information on the those gel coat types?

Re: Gel Coat

The metalflake jobs your taking about is just dry colored Aluim. flakes(Walmart's craft section, same stuff) mixed with clear gelcoat then backed up with a color matching the flake color or black gelcoat. The problem your going to face is that on production boats (everything is backwards) the gelcoat is the first thing sprayed in the mold, on flake jobs it goes like this (1) Clearcoat (2) mixture of clear and flake (3) backing color (4)a light skin coat of chopped roving to lock gelcoat down (5)start building the boat inside the paint job -- yet-- to patch damage you would spray the color, mixed clear gelcoat&flake, then several coats of clear gelcoat, let dry, then blocksand with 800 out to 2000 grit and then buff to a gloss finish ;) Not sure if they have clear gel,but they could tell where to get it mostlikely http://www.shopmaninc.com/fiberglass.html
