Gel like substance in fuel filter?

My 70HP has a clear fuel filter between the tank and bulb. Does anyone know what causes a gel like substance to accumulate in the filter housing? I mix gas and oil 50/1

What color is it? If tan and in little chunks with a radius to them it could be your tank to engine OEM gray fuel line dissolving. Mine was 10 years old and did it this spring.

It may also be water, or a white substance that often is found in fuel filters from the E 85 fuels

On E-85 fuel, yesterday I was in town and saw the first retailer in this area (that I saw) with the yellow marked pumps. Price was 50 cents less than E10 at $3 a gallon. I thought about it, but I was getting gas for my lawn mowers and my P/U truck is the only flex fuel rated vehicle/piece of equipment I own.

I guess we can prepare for a rash of new problem associated with it if you already know problems exist in using it.

After researching this issue, fuel gelling is caused by phase separation, common with E10 and above fuels. In Kansas, this is all that is available. I will be using Star Tron additive on a regular basis in all of my power equipment to combat the effects of this high priced, poor quality gasoline

I use StarTron diesel treatment in my farm diesel tanks and it keeps the fuel pristeen clear (red tint due to farm diesel marking) when I can find it, other than ordering it from them in Florida by the case.

For your outboard, you might try Sea Foam which was made specifically for OB's and later expanded their advertising to other equipment. I use it religiously and get excellent results.
