I've watched some youtube videos on this but everyone seems to be working on somewhere near the top. What's the best method to repair the bottom? MarineTex? Will it run off? Kinda hard to flip it upside down with a 21' fiberglass boat

I bought a kit like the one below to repair the areas on my hull where it had been scraped and chipped up. Its a paste with hardener ( like body filler ). Rough up the area first with a dremel to give it something to "bite" on to. Apply your mixed paste and cover with a sheet of plastic until hard. Once cured you can wetsand smooth and buff to blend it in.

Mod EDIT

How big are they. If small, then I'd recommend PC-11. It's a 2 part epoxy product that you can apply even underwater. Prep the area as described by axisg and then use a plastic putty knife to smooth it out. It's white so it will blend in fairly well.

Home Depot also might have it. Not all stores do.

Stupid question WOG

Will this Epoxy based product break down with the UV rays or turn yellow?

If it's on the bottom of your boat I hope it doesn't get exposed to UV rays. That would mean you capsized.

I was assuming, since he said it was on the "Bottom" of the boat it would be below the water line and therefore not subject to UV rays. But.. to answer your question directly, as with all Epoxy products it DOES need to be coated with Paint or some other barrier to prevent degradation for the UB rays!!!;)

good point about painting over it. I remember they have some special white paint of the boat store, when applied it sorta looks like gel coat. Who knows maybe is just regular paint! :) I take a few snapshots of the area this tomorrow am
