Quick question, anyone have a rough idea of what it would cost to professionally re-do the gelcoat on a 22 ft cabin cruiser?
It's 10 years old, and has some spider-cracking in areas. At this point, I think its not in danger of really
causing any issues but, its a huge annoyance to me. I'm not sure if the whole boat really needs to be redone
or not, I guess I would estimate maybe 25% of the boat has this type of cracking on it.

I tend to take on projects, and realize I don't have the skill to finish them so I really dont want to try doing it myself.
I can change oil, and do routine maintence but this falls a little too far from my abilities I'm afraid.
Although, if anyone is in the north georgia area and can guide me through it who knows what they're doing
I would certainly pay them! ;)

Also, do companies that do this kind of work offer warranties on this kind of thing?
Do people normally re-do the entire finish or just hit the areas that are cracked?

I'm not sure how these cracks ended up all over the place but, since I have owned the boat I have always
slowed down for any kind of wave I think will hit the boat hard and coast slowly when docking.
Can't speak for what might have happened before I owned the boat.

Any advise is greatly appreciated as always.
Guess I should also add that the boat is worth putting money into, its got maybe 200 hrs on it
and has no issues other than this cracking.

Re: Gelcoat Cost

woah.......just a minit here.....hang on....

this is a comon question.....lets see if i can help.

the only reason to re gell a boat is that the gell is totally shot.....i mean storm damage toast.

the crazing can be repaired and the boat re surfaced for 1500-2000.

paint will not work unless the crazing is repaired. so you are still at 1500-2k

btw....is that a larson?....larson was famous for crazed gell

Yeah, she's a Larson Cabrio 22 ft.. I love the boat but, I think I can see in some areas
where they might have tried to save money by cheapening things up.
The gelcoat is one of my complaints, the other is the gauges seem cheap,
handle on the cabin door was made out of plastic which is beyond me since the
door feels like it weighs 100 lbs, and the pattern on the curtain for the head
bled onto the vinyl in the cabin. Small issues but, it was pretty expensive when the
boat was brand new.. Seems another $100 in parts and the boat would have been much
better. (Other than the gelcoat)

$1500 - $2000 is dealable.. We'll have to see. Thanks for the reply !!

That's a low ball price I'd still plan on 3500+ no shop will do work for less than 100$ an hr plus materials......that's if u can repair ur old gelcoat if your boat isn't in the water all year around and just use it put in the trailer I'd use a urethane automotive products I do custom paint and have great luck that's another option also for 5-700$ u could do it yourself at home

10k or more ..

Your deck is Crazed out I would imagine .. .. so you need to repair the cracks .. then you need to prep/seal coat.. then you need to Highbuild primer .. then you need to primer .. then you need to paint. .. IF your going paint ..

If your Gelling .. you need to find a full geller .. repair and then blow on gel .. then sand and bufff ..

Your still looking at 10k + for a deck with cracks all over the place. .. professionally that is ..

I can make up a list for ya if you like at 90/hr plus materials ..

Got pics ?
