I am having a problem with gelcoat the i am appling on some sections of my boat. After the gelcoat dries and i go to sand it, it feels like there is a thin film of wax or resin on the top. It always clogs up the the sand paper until the film is gone. I add the same amount of wax additive as I do with the MEKP. Do I need to add more wax additive or not add any at all. thanks

Re: gelcoat problem

Have you tried sealing the fresh gelcoat with PVA? Spray the PVA in light coats until it is covered. After sanding and buffing it will have a better appearence than the wax additive gelcoat mix.

Re: gelcoat problem

PVA is a water cleanup coating that you spray on normally, seals the surface of the gelcoat so it will cure, and then washes off with water. Get it at f/g supply house.
