Gelcoat question

Hi All,

I was looking for some White gelcoat to fill in a couple of screwholes from my windshield. I found what i need and will buy it today.

however i stumbled over some "clear" gelcoat. Clear Gel Coat in stock for same day shipping | Fibre Glast

My question is if i prep my boat and get a good bite on it, can i lay this "clear" gel coat over the colors that i currently have and it is more or less going to clear coat the boat? It has a decent shine now, but you can tell its had some time in the sun and the colorsanding i did did not help too much.

If your filling screw holes get some Marine Tex or some type of epoxy and fill first. Then gel coat over. Gel coat is not for filling holes.

I know i already have the Marine tex to fill the holes, but because they are on the dash i want some white gel to blend it in then color sand and buff it

The clear gel coat probably wont bring out any more shine. The color of your boat will come through exactly like you see it now. Your best bet for bringing out a better shine is very fine grit wet/dry sand paper or rubbing compound.

Marine tex is an epoxy based product. Gelcoat does not adhere well to epoxy. Gelcoat paste WILL fill the screw holes quite nicely.

Is it gelcoat mixed with cabosil?

I use bondo body filler to fill small holes, then gel over it.

I usually have it around for other projects.

Anyone selling gelcoat repair kits probably also carries paste:

Including iboats

Color matching is an art, so you may want a kit that includes a variety of pigments
