Folks,

If I need to repair Gelcoat (I have several areas that had holes in the hull that have been repaired from the inside with epoxy glass and resin), do I need something special for adhearing to the epoxy, all of the getcoat repair kits I have seen are polyester, and I thought polyester would not stick to epoxy.

Also, is gelcoat just an additive to the resin or is it it's own thing?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.

Re: Gelcoat repair

To fill holes and such I have read on this board that Marine Tex is the way to go.

Bob

Re: Gelcoat repair

I have done many minor repairs and have not had any problem spraying gelcoat over epoxy filler..although, if the repair is above the water line and just a minor ding, I would use poly filler as it is easier to sand.

Re: Gelcoat repair

Flashback,

Thanks, this was a pretty big stress crack below the waterline, had to repair with epoxy (my preference for strength) from the inside, I will give the gelcoat a shot over the epoxy, area will be about a 6in. by 1ft.

I plan on painting the hull when all is said and done.

Thanks guys.

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.
